And as a special treat, I’m sharing Hopeless Still, which is
a follow up to the poem Hopeless Romantic. I’ve
posted Hopeless Romantic previously
(you can click here if you’ve never read it). Both poems reside in the Feeling Romantic
chapter.
Hopeless Still
I’m mad
Pissed off
And through,
You—
Don’t need to call me
Or come by.
Don’t try to get back
What you had,
If you miss me, too bad.
You should have thought it through,
Weighed your pros and cons
Before you coned me
Into thinking
I had something
Special.
Yeah,
That’s right,
This in one fight
You won’t win,
This is the end.
This is it
I’m through,
If I see you
Don’t speak and don’t smile;
You know how that used to drive me wild.
But anyway,
Like I said,
The relationship is dead.
I don’t want to see you,
If I do,
I won’t gaze into your eyes.
I’ll try to not stare
And glare,
Give you the chance
To hypnotize me once again;
Make me weak in the knees.
No, none of that,
As a matter of fact,
No friendly hugs,
No chance to rub
Your sexy body against mine.
Don’t try
To squeeze me tight
Hold me just right,
Like you did
When we first became friends.
Made me want more than a hug
Or a kiss on the cheek,
For your love you made me seek—
And dream.
But, yeah—
Don’t expect any of this.
Don’t persist,
I insist
That I’m through.
Unless, your story is good,
Then I guess I should
Hear you out,
See what it’s all about.
Hear your side,
Maybe let you slide
This time.
Maybe forgive and give
Myself to you.
Give us a fresh start,
Give you my heart.
Wrap myself in you
And the thought of us.
Why must
Love get me like this,
Puts my heart in a twist.
Tricks my mind,
I do this each time
I think I’m through;
All you do
Is breathe
And I question me.
As long as you exist,
Your touch I’ll always miss.
I will forever give into your will,
As crazy as it is;
I’m hopeless still.
