A poem from Feeling Poetic - Make me Ignorant

A poem from Feeling Poetic, A Book of Poetry

This poem speaks to the phase in relationships where you realize things aren't going in the right direction, however, you're in too deep.  I remember writing this poem and the emotions I was going through.  The good news is, writing this poem helped me make my exit.

Make me Ignorant

You make me ignorant.
And I should be ashamed,
And should know better
Than to let a man
Like you
Run circles
Around me.

But I do.
With no regrets.

I let you do what you please
All to please me.

I let you take control,
Knowing your direction
Is not clear,
But I don’t care.

You make me ignorant.

Ignorant
To what my heart desires
And what I need
To be complete--
In union with no confusion,
In lust with no sin.

I surrender,
Simply to have you
And enjoy you.

I stop thinking,
Because my mind is
Steering me away from you,
And I can’t have that.

It’s not that I like it,
I just can’t help it.

My mind wonders
And I wonder
If one day
We can be one
And I think that it is so,
And I start to believe it
And I feel it,
And then I remember...
I don’t know any better.

Can’t go on what I think
Or believe to be true,

You make me ignorant.
